Symptoms and treatment options – recommendations of an international expert panel for healthcare professionals
Summary:
An increasing number of people are affected by long COVID syndrome, which can often cause prolonged and significant health impairment. Various symptom complexes may develop, involving persistent inflammatory processes and damage to the muscles, heart, nervous system and sensory organs. A larger group of younger patients presents symptoms of post-viral chronic fatigue syndrome / myalgic encephalomyelitis. In these patients, COVID-19 often had a relatively mild acute course.
This article presents perspectives for understanding the disorder, as well as the multimodal therapeutic approach of anthroposophic medicine. Acute COVID-19 illness refers to the first four weeks of coronavirus disease. The term persistent post-COVID syndrome or long COVID is generally used synonymously with post-COVID syndrome, especially when symptoms continue for more than twelve weeks after infection. Persistent symptoms and lasting impairments are defined as those present from the fourth week after the onset of the acute illness.
